Terms:

  • DSO: Designated School Official- Person at a university who ensures that all international students remain in compliance with US regulations.

  • F1: Student visa needed to study in the United States

  • i20: Document that universities provide that accompanies a student visa for eligibility to stay in the US.

  • H1B: A work visa in the US that is offered as a lottery that valid for 3 years at a time

  • EB2: employment-based green card category that grants US permanent residency to foreign nationals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability.

  • OPT: Optional Practical Training- 1-year work visa that is available for all international students after graduation

  • Sponsorship: A company volunteers to submit an entry in the H1B lottery

Interview Questions:

  • How did your experience as an international student shape your self-awareness in leadership? (Understanding why you are who you are and what your purpose and motivations are.)

  • How has your experience as an international student affected your emotional intelligence?

  • What drives your motivation to complete your degree in a foreign country that has so many challenges to be able to stay in the country? What fuels your resiliency?

  • How has your experience as an international student influenced your leadership qualities?
